I’ve been trying to navigate life for over half a century. It’s been a rough river. I’ve achieved, suffered, strived, failed, hurt, grieved, cried, loved, lost, and screamed. It’s been a lot and I’ve still a way to go.
I’ve been lucky enough along ‘The Way’ to have been able to work in the health and wellness industry. For over thirty years, in fact. I started in the era of multigyms and powerjogs. Yes, that long ago !
With regard to WholeWell, I’ve observed and been at the heart of a lot, as we’ve tried endlessly to provide solutions to help people begin ‘wellness journeys’ and ‘stay on their respective paths’.
What we’ve understood, over the last thirty to forty years in particular of diet and exercise, is there is always massive momentum, but that it swings terribly. We (me included) desire to live healthy habits. But so very often we fall off the path from distraction, dissuasion, distaste, denial … and more. The industry has moved through endless evolutions, to try and help, and create sticky habits. Today, more and more, behavioural science is leading a charge, lighting the way to try and make the crucial difference to solve the adherence conundrum.
A behavioural focus absolutely does help, but it’s still not quite the ‘whole’ difference. There’s still something missing, underneath it all.
And that ‘underneath’ is what WholeWell is about. It’s a framework, a substrate, a foundation, on which change can seed.
